OUR MISSION:
Roses for Missy is a safe place for children to “grow through grief” where hurt, healing, and hope can co-exist.
VISION:
Roses for Missy hopes for a world where children who lose a parent or loved one do not have to experience the adverse effects of grief alone.
We aim to accept all regardless of background. Grief does not discriminate, and neither do we.
With grief comes pain and pain can turn into passion. This can be expressed in any way you'd like. We are here to help you, with a passionate need to serve the community.
Here, you are resilient. We will give you the tools you need to grow through your grief. Never be afraid to ask for support.
Hear from some of my satisfied clients about their experiences working with me and the positive changes they have seen in their lives.
We lead with love. You are welcomed, you are heard, you are seen.
In Michigan, about one in 11 children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by the age of 18. This number more than doubles by the time they reach 25 years old- Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model (CBEM) 2024
The impact of childhood grief can be devastating and have a direct effect on:
Academics: Teachers often observe that students who have lost a parent or guardian have difficulty concentrating, withdraw from class, and miss more school.
Public Health and Behavior: Many children lose loved ones to public health issues like chronic diseases, gun violence, and drug overdoses.
Stigmatized Death: Children who experience the death of a loved one from a stigmatized cause, like an accidental drug overdose, COVID-19, suicide, or homicide, may feel isolated, guilty, and uncertain.
Support: 57% of those who lost a parent reported that support from family and friends waned within the first 3 months following the loss.
Referral source for grief and mental health counseling services for children and their families. Providing clinical intervention can foster a healthy environment for coping and managing emotions that are related to grief and loss.
Recreational programs for children who are grieving can promote healthy lifestyles by helping them express their feelings, find creative ways to grieve, reduce isolation, validate experiences, and nurture development. This holistic approach will provide a well-rounded system of support that is not only based in grief work but personal growth and development for participants.
Community awareness helps people learn ways to help a grieving child they happen to know, now or in the future. Educating the general public, clinical staff, and any adult who might come into a grieving child's life incorporates awareness with the evolving grief education of children to ensure that we are always meeting their holistic needs.
